Make A Fashion Statement at the Next Wedding You Attend

1 Apr

Make a Fashion Statement at the next wedding you attend Masaba Gupta saris

I’ve been married for almost a year and a half now. And this is what happens every time I open my cupboard to choose a sari to wear to a wedding -

I browse through all the saris I own, and reject 90% of them because “it’s chamki” “too plain” “already worn it to the last 6 weddings” or “everyone’s going to be wearing this”.

Sometimes, when I’ve attended too many weddings in a row, I reject ALL the saris in my cupboard, because it gets seriously repetitive - the same style, the same embroidery, the same fabrics. Now I’m not the kind of person who likes to make serious fashion statements at a wedding, so I usually stick to very “typical” kind of saris. The most I do is Continue reading

Behind The Scenes: The Virtual Wedding Show (wedding blogger session!)

16 Dec

Did you see it? Did you see it???

JUST PRESS PLAY!

Now for what happened behind the scenes -

I did the Wedding Blogger session this morning on IndianRoots’ Virtual Wedding Show, with fellow blogger Mehak (of Peachesandblush.com). And it was SO. MUCH. FUN!

Meeting Mehak is always a pleasure, she’s so unassuming and chilled out :) We got our makeup done by MUA Nishi, who had only 20 minutes to do her work on both of us!

Here are our before & after pictures -

After (I know, it’s a bit blurry!)

Also met Jessica from Google who told me her friend Parul is a loyal TDB reader. Hello Parul! I saw you live while you were attending the Show!

Before the show began, I met Ambika and she was really nice to both of us even throughout the live session. She found my name difficult to pronounce (it’s not the easiest!) so my name got no air time I believe – haha!

I wore my Kapil & Monika suit that I’d bought as part of my trousseau last year, thinking it’s made of a thick material so I won’t feel cold. But it was so hot inside, that I might as well have worn a summer suit!

Our session lasted for a little over 10 minutes, but it just flew by for us! I just saw our video, and…ummm…there are so many things that made me feel like I want to go hide somewhere. Specially my hands! What’s up with them flying all over?! Well, that IS how I talk in real life (I think?) so that’s how it finally came out. So much for trying to figure out before we went live – hmmm…how should I place my hands on my lap? Haha! Mehak was so bubbly and approachable, and I loved what she was wearing!

Hope you guys enjoyed the show, and managed to miss all the things that I’m picking on & getting embarrassed about!

A big thank you to the IndianRoots team for putting together such a fantastic show and being a fun bunch of people to hang out with before & after! Seriously, this Virtual Wedding Show was so, so useful. To see the rest of the videos (highly recommended!!!), go to the IndianRoots YouTube channel here.

The Only Skin Care Plan You Need: Bride Edition

6 Nov

After an unintentional long, relaxing Karva Chauth + anniversary + Diwali break, I’m back to blogging re-charged and refreshed! Let’s get right back to all the important, long pending posts. I’ve SO much to share, and I’m charging head first into all the backlog starting this very minute!

First up – I wrote a post on IndianRoots about pre-bridal skin care. I wish I had a friend who had guided me through the confusing maze of the excessive information on skin care needs for a bride. Everyone has their own views on what works and what doesn’t. But after a year of experience with skin care and makeup (bridal blogger privileges of meeting up with some experts in the field!), I’ve managed to come up with a routine that cuts across all the nonsense and gives you a basic, practical plan you can follow. It comes from a novice, so there’s nothing complicated, nothing you can’t easily comprehend and apply in your life starting today. Go ahead, have a look!

The Only Skin Care Plan You Need Bride Edition Wedding Special pre-bridal skin care

Your wedding date is set. You just paid the deposit at the venue. What’s the next big thing on your wedding to-do list? No, it’s not the photographer or the makeup artist. It’s your skin care plan!

You should have a basic skin care routine in place as soon as the date is set, but for all practical purposes you should start taking serious care of your skin 3 to 6 months before your big day.” Read the rest of the post here

What are your tips on pre-bridal skin care? What’s worked for you?

Editor’s Picks: Anita Dongre on IndianRoots

12 Oct

Remember when I wrote about the Anita Dongre bridal wear store in Mumbai? I got a ton of queries from brides asking if the collection was available outside Mumbai as well. For Delhi brides, some bridal wear pieces might be available at the Saket & MG Road AD stores, but for the most part – if you don’t live in Mumbai, getting your hands on an Anita Dongre bridal outfit was a tough task.

Not anymore.

Those of you who live outside Mumbai, or even outside India, can now order yourself an Anita Dongre bridal outfit from Indianroots.com – one of the newest e-railers for designer-wear (whom I also guest blog for!) They have the largest AD collection I’ve seen anywhere on the world wide web, and

IndianRoots also has the best rates!

10 Jun

Screen Shot 2013-06-10 at 1.12.03 PM

I’m totally pumped this week! Want to know why? I have a 5 day vacation coming up! Family holiday to Goa!

But that also means I need to get so much more done over the next 5 days. And it explains why I spent my Sunday evening (and night) working. For you, my readers!

To start you off this week, I’ve written a guest post on which lehenga style will suit you according to your body shape. I got designer Priyal Prakash on board and we decoded it all for you! So go ahead, have a look at my guest post on Indian Roots and figure out if you’re a strawberry, apple or pear! Do leave a comment telling us if you liked the post. Thanks!

In other news, check back with us tonight. We have a little something special planned out. Ok, who are we kidding? It’s super duper special and so awesome and we can’t wait to share it with you! Stay tuned!

Any guesses on what the special something might be?

The Ultimate Wedding Makeup Guide: Part 2

22 May

Last week, I wrote a very special guest post for Indian Roots on the pre-wedding homework you must do for Bridal Makeup. This week, I follow it up with the next post in the series The Ultimate Wedding Makeup Guide: On the Day Of The Wedding.”

Screen Shot 2013-05-22 at 3.47.14 PM

Remember to read this one in detail right before your wedding – it will take you through every step of getting ready on your wedding day. From what you should wear to the parlour (yes, it matters! For a practical reason) to how to ensure you’re comfortable throughout your wedding ceremony.

Let me know if you found it useful, in the comments!

Part 2: On The Day Of The Wedding

The Ultimate Wedding Makeup Guide: Part 1

15 May

When I was researching makeup artists before my wedding, I wish someone had given me a guide on how to handle the whole Wedding Makeup situation. A lot of us are complete novices when it comes to makeup, and the only resource we have to learn all about it is Google. While there are plenty of makeup blogs out there (I highly recommend all brides learn the basics of makeup through these websites), I wanted a go-to guide tailor-made for brides, with pointers on how to navigate through the world of makeup artists and draping and facials.

Well, you know I won’t let you suffer the same fate as I did. So I put together everything I learnt from my own wedding, and did a very special guest post on IndianRoots.com - The Ultimate Wedding Makeup Guide: Pre-Wedding Homework. This is part 1 of the series.
