In the last 30 days, we’ve attended a LOT of events. Seen a lot of beautiful wedding clothes, discovered a few new wedding vendors, and even read a book on bridal fitness! There’s no dearth of wedding madness in our life, it seems :) Endless, I tell you. Endless!

Maxi Skirts: The New Budget Lehenga?

25 Feb

If you’re looking for light lehengas that are also light on the pocket, I have an idea for you. I’m sure I’m not the first person in the world to have had this inspired thought, but last weekend I saw this picture of a maxi skirt & crop top -

Fuschia embroidered maxi skirt with nude crop top

and thought to myself, “This is so pretty, can’t it double up as a lehenga?”

Waittaminute *quickly scrolls down to check price*

Yes, it can!

The crop top and skirt were priced at ₹26,000 - the average these days to buy a light lehenga by an even slightly known designer. Was I onto something?

Were there other maxi skirts out there that could double up as light lehengas?

11 Things You Need To Know About Ogaan’s Wedding Exhibition

15 Jan

#1 It’s called Weddings 2015 and starts TODAY, at Ogaan in Hauz Khas Village.

#2 You’ll get to see what’s in store for 2015 weddings in fashion - all curated for you and wrapped up in a neat bow, under one roof!

#3 You just might find a designer lehenga that fits your bigger-than-you-realise-budget (why are you spending over 1 lakh at Chandni Chowk and Frontier Raas for copies? Unless you’re looking for a Sabyasachi lehenga, of course…then stay there.)

#4 It’s guaranteed to be an ocean of pretty trousseau pieces, worthy of a bride. Some of my favourite designers are on display here.

#5 Nidhi Tholia is here, showcasing her collection of stunning pastels - THE colour this wedding season! Her lehengas leave a really big hole in the pocket, but they are STUNNING.

#6 Dolly J lehengas. ‘Nuff said.

#7 French Curve‘s delicate & pretty outfits are in town all the way from Bangalore city. They’ve been mentioned on the blog earlier here.

#8 Nikasha always has something bright enough and light enough for a Mehendi function.

#9 Sonal Kalra Ahuja is currently killing it with her floral pieces, yet another trend this season, which is ALSO my favourite trend of the year.

#10 Sonali Gupta designs for the off-beat bride’s trousseau.

#11 Needledust jootis! Every bride should own a pair.

Ogaan India

I usually just inform you about wedding related events on Facebook or the Events page here on the blog, but I (a) could not possibly pack so much information in a small Facebook post, and (b) did not want you to miss being notified about this! If you’re a Delhi bride, it’s a must-visit. A little birdie has told me the exhibition is expected to be on only for the next 2-3 days.

Are you going?

Hauz Khas Village Favourites Revisited

16 Jul

I visited Hauz Khas Village for a meeting today, and of course, once the meeting was over I couldn’t stop myself from taking a look at the latest collection at some of my favourite stores. I would’ve visited many more, but it was raining and there were puddles forming all around at a rather rapid speed. So I just dropped by at three stores in the main lane - the ones I’ve already spoken about on the blog before: Rewaz by Dolly J, Ole Couture & Ogaan.

Rewaz has some pretty lehengas - and I saw a few that were along the same lines as the ones I’d seen at Anita Dongre’s bridal wear store in Phoenix Mills as well as at Sabyasachi’s collection at the Vogue Wedding Show - chikankari work on pastel shade lehengas with tiny sequins sparsely spread over them. Of course, they also had some pretty anarkalis that were almost gowns and some stunning lehengas. Basically, you can buy some trousseau wear from here, if you’re willing to spend over 20-30k on saris and suits. The lehengas were in the 40k+ range.

Ole Couture is still the same - I continue to think it’s kind of overpriced, but it has some great outfits. The second I walked in, there was this stunning dark blue pleated long dress with golden sequins on the upper half. So worthy of being worn to a red carpet event! Price was over 20k. I noticed how a lot of the collection was exactly the same as last year’s - saw the same lehengas and anarkalis. Also spotted a very pretty bright pink lehenga with aari work on it, that I had fallen in love with last year. My own wedding lehenga is very similar - but this one is heavier (in weight) and costs more (2.3 lakh). But a lot of last year’s collection is on sale at the moment - 10% to 25% discount. I found out that the sale is almost over, so if you’re looking to buy from there - go TOMORROW!

Ogaan is also still the same - feels like you walked into Indian wear heaven. Nikasha outfits are absolutely stunning - the gorgeous shades, the flowy anarkalis, the delicate work, I just love it all! Prices are sky-high as well, but that’s not surprising as it’s a designer wear store. If you’re looking for pricey gota patti work suits/anarkalis and saris, they have a really great collection. Saffron is another brand that has pretty gota patti pieces in the store at the moment. Prices range from 50k to 75k, so head in there only if you have deep pockets. Lehengas start at 1 lakh.
