I will be the first to admit - I love everything Bombay. And so, it’s no surprise, I love my Bombay Brides (do the names Shonan, Anushka & Masaba Gupta ring a bell?) Since I spent a lot of my early school years in Mumbai, and went back there for college, I have a lot of Bombay people on my Facebook list. One of them is a girl called Anasuya. She was my batchmate in college, and if there’s one thing I remember about her, it was how I perpetually saw her in silver jewellery during those 3 years on campus. Why is this important? You’ll find out soon enough.
Anasuya popped up on my Facebook feed last year. In bridal finery. That I loved. We had a long chat over coffee at a Delhi cafe, where she showed me all her gorgeous wedding photographs while exchanging notes on how Delhi life compares to Mumbai (she’s moved to the Capital to live with her husband, Ashish). Why? Because, silly, when a fashion blogger gets married, music plays on cue and us wedding bloggers are the only ones who can hear it.
Anushka debuted a first peek into her March wedding recently on Instagram, and I almost unhinged my jaw at the sight of her wedding gown.
It was a breath-taking white wedding dress.
But how did a girl from Mumbai end up in a white wedding dress all the way over in the UK? And who made that stunning gown?

She got married last December during a two-day wedding affair at Le Meridian and Fairmont, Jaipur. Her courtship period was quite short, which meant limited time to plan the wedding. Her mehendi function was planned to be a small, cosy affair of 50-70 guests. But as it happens so often in Indian weddings, it ended up being a 250-300 people function! I watched “Connected” recently, a wedding video trailer by the very talented videographers - The Wedding Filmer. Their videos usually take me on a fantasy trip where every scene is filled with love & happiness. This time though, it wasn’t just the love that made me sit up & take notice. What caught my eye was the bride’s beautiful outfits! I only caught a glimpse of them in the video, and I knew I wanted more. So off I went and contacted Anuja, the bride, who was more than happy to share all the details (and photos!) about her wedding wardrobe with us, along with a very important lesson she learnt along the way - “Don’t go shopping with someone who loves you too much!” Wondering what that means?
