It was a simple wedding. Or, well, as simple as it can get with a Bollywood wedding. I LOVE simple Indian weddings, and considering how hard they are to find, Shahid Kapoor & Mira Rajput’s elegant affair shot to the top of my favourites list as soon as it was done. Isn’t it amazing how every one of you out there who doesn’t want a big fat Indian wedding can finally scream from the rooftops – “If Shahid Kapoor can have a simple wedding, SO CAN I!” Yay for every bride out there who just wants a nice simple affair!
There were a lot of great ideas for brides to steal for their own wedding – from decor to hairstyles and even wedding favours, and I’m putting them all together here for you to pick and choose from.
#1 The PERFECT wedding itinerary
A TWO day wedding.
Day 1 – Mehendi in the morning, followed by Sangeet and Cocktail party in the evening.
Day 2 – Morning wedding with closest family and friends only. Grand Reception party in the evening.
Why? It feels like wedding bootcamp, sure, but for those of us who don’t like to drag on celebrations for a whole week “just because”, this is so perfect. One of my cousin’s got married exactly this way, and I still fondly remember his wedding as the one I enjoyed the most. It makes it SO convenient for your guests also. Make it easy for us na. Please? Of course, this is only possible if both the bride and groom reside in the same city.
#2 Choodas that match your wedding outfit!
And choodas that come off immediately after the wedding ceremony 😉 Hers came off before the evening Reception!

Seriously though, check out her bubblegum pink choodas that match her baby pink wedding lehenga perfectly! I LOVE THIS! Do you think they’re available in all sorts of colours now, and not just tomato red, dark red and maroon?
#3 Pretty Wedding Day Hairstyle!
I loved the pretty arrangement of these tiny flowers in her hair. It made the bun look so beautiful, and it looked great peeping through her sheer dupatta! Also note how the colours of the flowers perfectly complement the colours in her outfit so that it looks like they were made for each other 🙂
#4 Super Simple Jaimaalas
They used a single string of yellow roses. Honestly, what more do you need? It was probably pretty light and comfortable to wear around the neck as well. You can also use red or pink roses, depending on what colour complements both your outfits the most.
#5 Cute Signboards

This wooden signboard was placed at the entrance to where the wedding ceremony was being held. SO CUTE! ❤
#6 Elegant Wedding Cakes
Ok, so everyone’s doing wedding cakes now. But what’s special about a generic pineapple cake? You just cut that on your last birthday. Of course, there are also those grand OTT wedding cakes. But Shahid & Mira struck the right balance with these 2 super elegant and impressive wedding cakes decorated by Delhi-based bakery – Firefly India. They look like pretty, pretty art, don’t they?
#7 Customised chocolates for wedding favours!
Firstly, who doesn’t love chocolate? And secondly, I don’t mean those run-of-the-mill chocolates. By customising it, you’re gifting your guests something unique that they couldn’t have just bought for themselves at the store next door. These were made for Shahid & Mira by Smitten Bakery & Patisserie, a shop that’s located in Delhi’s Asiad Village.

#8 Pretty Backdrop Decor Idea

Pinwheels and bells! That’s all it takes to get a super pretty backdrop ready for the area where the bride will sit to have mehendi applied to her hands 🙂 Of course, you can use this as a backdrop for any other area and events as well. Mira’s Kaleeray and Chooda ceremony also had her sitting in front of the same backdrop wall – but only temple bells were used.

#9 Light Sangeet Lehengas
YES. My friend, you need this. On your Sangeet, you’re going to dance. Maybe just on stage, maybe on the dance floor all night. Either way, Sangeet = dance. And trust me, you’ll be annoyed at yourself for choosing a heavy lehenga that makes movement difficult. Mira chose a super light Anita Dongre lehenga that was made using brocade fabric (light fabric that shines – perfect for brides!) and you can see in the Sangeet videos how comfortable it was for her to dance. If you want to dance, you gotta go light. Weight-wise, I mean.

#10 Choosing to put on as much Mehendi as YOU want
Mira applied just a little bit of mehendi. She was the bride, but she didn’t come under any bridal pressure. She wanted a limited amount of mehendi, and that’s exactly what she got. Girls, I’m getting tired of saying this, but I won’t stop till every single one of you does exactly what YOU want at YOUR own wedding – be yourself!
#11 The Perfect Way To Drape Dual Dupattas
THIS IS HOW IT’S DONE PEOPLE! Pin these to show to your makeup artist, please! And make sure your dupattas are long enough to be able to pull off this draping style. If you’re still wondering if you need one dupatta or two with your wedding lehenga, I always suggest two. Because the lighter one can be placed over your head. And don’t forget – THIS is how you drape it.
Didn’t you also love how Mira was a simple bride? She had every justification in the world to overdress. For some of us, just the fact that we’re brides is enough. She was a Bollywood bride! But she chose to stick to simplicity. And I think it’s worked beautifully in her favour. The rest of the wedding too, like I said, was an elegant affair. And I can’t wait to see what they have planned for their final wedding event!
One function remains before #ShahidKiShaadi madness ends. The reception, which is expected to be attended by all of Shahid’s Bollywood buddies, is hopefully happening as per what’s been reported – on 12th July in Mumbai. Yes yes, you can expect live updates on my Twitter and Instagram accounts. And on the blog as well!
