Varun Bahl at Amazon India Couture Week 2015

3 Aug

This was my favourite show at Couture Week – my absolute favourite. I’m obsessed with the images – zooming into the details feels like a visual treat. It was…delicious, if I may.

Firstly, Varun Bahl called this collection “Song of the Flower”. Flowers in couture? Consider us hooked.

And you cannot believe the beauty of the floral embroidery, the soft shades, the dreamy designs  – I really, really loved it. It feels like you walked into a secret garden, and rolled around in an endless land of flowers.

Four pieces made the cut to our top picks. But I can’t say I’m complaining about the rest. There are some fabulous details on so many other outfits, but these I’d wear them in a heartbeat (except for the menswear!), and they left me literally drooling onto my keyboard.

Hello! An angel just dropped from heaven! Such a lame comment on something this luxurious and high-fashion, but it is so apt. I will not apologise for letting my true feelings show. I think anyone who wears this will look like an angel. An angelic bride. There, I said it. Deal with it. This lehenga is breath-taking, and everything from the detailing on the skirt (of floral threadwork embroidery, pearls and beads) to that 3D floral applique work on the blouse is just perfect. This is the perfect outfit. Even her hairstyling is perfect for this look! And take note of that can-can peeking from underneath – it just adds to that feeling of walking on heaven, doesn’t it?

Where to wear: Ok, so if you’re comfortable being an ivory bride, this is your wedding day lehenga. You will look angelic, undoubtedly. If you don’t want to wear this colour on your big day, you can also consider this for your Reception. It’s just so uber-luxurious, don’t waste it on a smaller event. It deserves grandeur.

Top Pick Ivory Sari with Pale Grey _ Green Floral Motifs topped with Ivory Sequins and with Heavy Embroidery of Pearls on Border _ Blouse 2 - Varun Bahl - Amazon India Couture Week 2015 Top Pick Ivory Sari with Pale Grey _ Green Floral Motifs topped with Ivory Sequins and with Heavy Embroidery of Pearls on Border _ Blouse 1 - Varun Bahl - Amazon India Couture Week 2015

This outfit has the same sort of effect as the lehenga above. It’s an ivory sari with grey and pale blue (or is it green to signify leaves?) floral motifs embroidered on the fabric, topped off with ivory sequins. The sari’s border and blouse are heavily embroidered with strings of pearls. The sari itself is so elegant and beautiful, you can make do without the heavy blouse and instead go for something lighter and in a different shade (grey or blue?) to make it look young. Also, did you notice that the petticoat peeks through at the bottom? This was how a lot of the outfits were styled at this show, and I kind of liked it. It added another layer to the ensemble, and if this is actually a velvet petticoat – I just solved the problem of how to stay warm at winter weddings! 🙂

Where to wear: Keep it in your trousseau, and wear it to every formal soirée or wedding you’re invited to.

Top Pick Hand Embroidered White lehenga 2 - Varun Bahl - Amazon India Couture Week 2015 Top Pick hand embroidered lehenga details 2 Top pick Hand Embroidered lehenga 3 - Varun Bahl - Amazon India Couture Week 2015

I only loved the lehenga skirt. This dupatta does work with it, but I’m not a fan of the blouse.

This blush pink lehenga is as pretty and dream-like as the first lehenga, and it has strings of pearls embroidered on it with sequins and beautiful floral work.

Where to wear: Your wedding or reception.

Top Pick Ivory Sherwani for groom with Floral Hand Embroidery and wide-legged bottoms - Varun Bahl - Amazon India Couture Week 2015

I always love subtle, subtle work on a men’s ethnic outfit. And this one is exactly that! A classic bandhgala sherwani that is so apt for a groom.

Where to wear: For grooms on their wedding day.

During this Haute Couture Fall 2015 show, a new wedding decor venture “Aurum by Varun Bahl” was launched. The entire set was designed by them, and considering how beautiful the floral garden looked, it might be a good idea to keep them in mind for your luxury wedding.

Was this your favourite show from AICW 2015 as well? What did you think of it?
