Best of India Bridal Fashion Week 2015

2 fashion weeks back to back = 1 exhausted wedding blogger.

While it’s been a fun 2 weeks, it’s also been a bit back-breaking. But still, FUN! *falls to the ground*

We’ve shared so much new fashion with you (from India Couture Week all the way to Vogue Wedding Show), but there’s one more big one before we take a break for the weekend – our favourite bridal wear picks from BMW India Bridal Fashion Week 2015 that wrapped up in Delhi this Tuesday. Go on, look at our Top Picks first, and then browse through the rest of the collections at the end of the post. 90+ outfits are in here, so take your time and see what IBFW had to offer to brides this year.

Top Picks

Falguni & Shane Peacock - Pale Pink Organza Gown with Floral Applique Side - BMW India Bridal Fashion Week 2015.jpg Falguni & Shane Peacock - Pastel Purple Organza Gown with Floral Applique - BMW India Bridal Fashion Week 2015 Falguni & Shane Peacock - Pastel Purple Organza Gown with Floral Applique Details - BMW India Bridal Fashion Week 2015 Falguni & Shane Peacock - Pastel Purple Organza Gown with Floral Applique Front - BMW India Bridal Fashion Week 2015

This Falguni & Shane Peacock gown was my favourite. It looked even better in person, and the picture doesn’t do it justice. Loved that trail it came with.

Where to wear: Your Engagement or Reception party. And show some restraint – don’t overload it with jewellery. I can guarantee you, your family will go nuts when you say you want to keep the jewellery limited, but if you let them have their way, you’re going to ruin this perfectly pretty gown.

Jyotsna Tiwari - Peach Anarkali Gown with Embellished Floral Embroidery Front - BMW India Bridal Fashion Week 2015 Jyotsna Tiwari - Peach Anarkali Gown with Embellished Floral Embroidery Back - BMW India Bridal Fashion Week 2015

This Jyotsna Tiwari anarkali gown was one of the many options younger brides would love to slip into from her show. I liked the colour, the touch of embroidery that makes it light enough for a pre-wedding function, and the corset-like back that adds some edge to this otherwise princess-like outfit.

Where to wear: It’s perfect for your Engagement or Roka ceremony.

Gauri and Nainika - Sky Blue Midi Dress with 3D Floral Applique Front - BMW India Bridal Fashion Week 2015 Gauri and Nainika - Sky Blue Midi Dress with 3D Floral Applique Side - BMW India Bridal Fashion Week 2015

A powder blue dress in neoprene, with 3D bougainvilla flower petals flowing down one side – I loved this Gauri & Nainika dress!

Where to wear: Your bridal shower, a wedding brunch or on your European honeymoon!

I loved the ivory & gold with a pop of colour that came with the orange blouse for the sari, and the red dupatta and bright borders for the anarkali. Ashima Leena gave brides some seriously elegant silk options to add to their trousseau.

Where to wear: On any occasion that demands silk. Wear the sari to your South Indian friend’s wedding, and put on that anarkali for attending a Winter Wedding. And of course, both will do for any post-wedding dinner parties you might be invited to.

Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla - Off White Embroidered Kurta with Gold Cigarette Pants - BMW India Bridal Fashion Week 2015

Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla got it right with this off-white chikankari suit. Looks simple, but that’s what I love about it. It’s sprinkled with sequins (or are they Swarovski crystals?) all over and has a hint of pastel green and beige on the border, adding a heavier dimension to what would have otherwise been a plain suit.

Where to wear: You’ll look like quite the elegant guest at any smaller pre-wedding function, and at all those dinner parties.

Highlights of the Rest

Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla

Collection: Varanasi

Sonam Kapoor opened and closed the show, in two different outfits! It was very colourful, and had a mix of brights, ivories and heavy wedding lehengas.

Ashima Leena

Collection: Dakshna

They created the collection for a traditional South Indian bride, and gave us visual candy with all the beautiful gold temple jewellery.

Falguni & Shane Peacock

Collection: That is it!

It was supposed to be a merging of vintage art & fashion from France with the traditional opulence of India. Slightly off-beat in design, this one didn’t steal my heart but is still worth a look if you are considering gowns for your trousseau.

Tarun Tahiliani

Collection: Our Eclectic New World

I’ve already given you the entire breakdown – from top picks to a look at pretty much the entire collection – in this post.

Jyotsna Tiwari

Collection: Secret Garden

It was too similar to last year to take anyone’s breath away. It was a beautiful collection while it was fresh, but it seemed a bit repetitive this year. However, there were still some nice gowns and lehengas in pretty hues.

JJ Valaya

Collection: The Bolshoi Bazaar

The set was spot on, with the audience feeling literally like they were in the middle of a Russian Winter and stuck in a snowstorm, but the clothes didn’t do much for us. I found only a handful worth sharing.

Gauri & Nainika

Collection: Haute Couture 2015

Theirs was a collection for a bride to wear to her Bridal Shower, Wedding Brunch with friends or to her Honeymoon.

Shantanu & Nikhil

Collection: The Mahal

A very different take on bridal wear, their collection was titled The Mahal this year. The silhouettes were inspired by the architecture and structure of palaces and forts. Some fantastic menswear in here.

Suneet Varma

Collection: A Love Story

Some signature Suneet Varma pieces, with costume headgear that seemed to take the models on a flight of fantasy.
