30 Favourite Finds at Lakme Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2016!

I’m a Lakme Fashion Week girl, any day. Why the tiff with Amazon India Fashion Week? Well…

One,

I don’t get it. Why does AIFW showcase designs for the NEXT season? I fail to get excited about full sleeves and warm silks while I’m sweating it out in Delhi’s heat. And by the time the next season is finally here, that post about favourites from AIFW is so deeply embedded in the archives, I don’t think most non-fashion fanatics will make the effort to look over it again. The excitement is greater if you’re showcasing clothes people will get to wear in the next 3 months!

Two,

I’ve never physically attended LFW, and knowing that it takes place in Mumbai has left me with some dreamy assumptions of how perfectly LFW gets executed. I assume shows start on time, people stand in queues to enter, no one pushes anyone and each publication has a reserved seat in the media section. I assume the bloggers get as much respect as bigger print publications, that no one sits on a seat meant for someone else, and that people in the front 3 rows don’t ridiculously click images with iPads (that annoyingly obscures the view of anyone sitting in the back rows!) Of course, these are all dreams of a fashion week I’ve never actually attended. If you have, tell me it’s all true! 😉

And even though Lakme Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2016 wasn’t specifically aimed at brides to be, I found plenty of beautiful clothes to love. Anushree Reddy and Anita Dongre were my favourite shows, so I’ve done dedicated posts for those two. As for the rest, I’ve picked out the best of everything from ethnic to western wear – from lehengas and saris to dresses and jackets.

Lehengas

Lehenga - Rohit Bal - Muted gold lehenga with jacket - Lakme Fashion Week Summer-Resort 2016 Lehenga - Rohit Bal - Ivory threadwork lehenga with laser cut short cape - Lakme Fashion Week Summer-Resort 2016

Two beautiful lehengas from the house of Rohit Bal! ❤ ❤ ❤

Lehenga - Payal Khandwala - Hot pink and gold chevron skirt with white shirt - Lakme Fashion Week Summer-Resort 2016

Is it a lehenga or a maxi skirt? Either way, this hot pink beauty by Payal Khandwala bowled us over with its geometric design!

Lehenga - Neeta Lulla - Blush pink top with floral lehenga - Lakme Fashion Week Summer-Resort 2016

Firstly, forget that awkward blouse. Focus on the lehenga – isn’t it stunning? Silk lehengas in bright yet subtle floral prints are such an ideal way for a minimalistic bride to stand out and be remembered for her sartorial choices on her wedding day. YES! Wear this Neeta Lulla lehenga on your wedding day! Pair with a classic bridal blouse and net dupatta in a bright hue.

I know, I’m not a fan of the whole look either. But if you just look at the lehenga – it’s quite a beautiful design by SVA Couture! Apt for the bride’s reception, I say.

Gowns

Gown - Gaurang Shah - Floral voluminous gown - Lakme Fashion Week Summer-Resort 2016

Indulge in a Gaurang Shah gown for your Pre-Wedding Brunch.

Gown - Manish Malhotra - Powder blue tulle gown with silver embroidery - Lakme Fashion Week Summer-Resort 2016

A stunning Manish Malhotra powder blue gown for the Princess Bride’s Reception!

Jackets

Jacket - Rajesh Pratap Singh - Gold jacket kurta with dhoti pants - Lakme Fashion Week Summer-Resort 2016

I loved this dripping in gold jacket by Rajesh Pratap Singh. Paired here with a dhoti, it will go just as well with your western ensemble.

Pair these SVA Couture jacket anarkalis with lehengas, churidars or even pants!

Dresses

Summer Dresses

I loved these flirty summer dresses by Pero!

For an evening out

White dresses to love by Sahil Kochhar!

And some options from a darker palette with Rajesh Pratap Singh and Nikhil Thampi dresses.

Casual Chic

Well, technically, the one on the right is a blouse, not a dress. But don’t you just love the embroidered motifs on these outfits from Quirkbox?

Print Lovers

Animal prints in a new avtaar – with these dresses by Sneha Arora in soft pinks and blues, and cutesy zebra & reindeer prints!

Even more printed dresses to love!

Saris

Swati & Sunaina’s show had the prettiest traditional saris to add to a bride’s trousseau.

Sari - Debashri Samanta - Blush pink floral print sari - Lakme Fashion Week Summer-Resort 2016

I found myself fascinated with this sari as an option for work wear. What do you think?

Special Mention

Shoutout to Manish Malhotra for the beautiful colours he used in his summer menswear collection! ❤

It was all over the news how a pregnant Carol Gracias walked the ramp for Gaurang Shah. While everyone was making a big deal about how it empowered women by having her work while pregnant, some were cynical and said that it was to cater to mothers-to-be, a big money-making market. However, no one pointed out how the big deal really was that a designer did not feel the need to have only slim non-pregnant models walk the ramp! I say we give some props to the designer.

A penny for your thoughts on LFW’s Summer Resort 2016 edition?

  1. I love it… all the clothes look so wearable, which is not the case most of the times 🙂 – I love the Meraki Project grey dress with a pink belt- super chic. The pero and Sahil Kochhar dresses are super too.

Gaurang Shah definitely needs some accolades – he is always path-breaking in his own way- firstly he forayed into something which isn’t easy to play with- he works with heritage silks and fabrics and revives them in a way which is appreciated by the youth – earlier and even now to some extent the definition of “designer” clothes meant non-traditional clothes – the younger generation were never keen to wear an traditional silk saree (be it paithani for maharastrians, patoda for gujaratis, bandhani for rajasthani’s, kanjeevaram, banarasi sarees and the likes) and were more into fabrics such as net, Georgette, shiffon. He has changed that perception (along with Raw Mango). Now more and more youngsters are willing to go the traditional route. Secondly, for believing and having confidence on the clothes he makes- he din’t need a slim perfect figure model to walk the ramp- he let his clothes to do the talking.
